What You Need To Know About Getting Bailed Out Of Jail

If you find yourself in a situation where you need bail money and don't have it, you may need to consider calling a bail bond agent and having them post the bail. If you choose to use a bail bond company to get out of jail, there are some things that you need to understand.

Finding A Bond Agent

When you are looking for a bail bond agent to work with, you may need to call several before finding one that will help you out. Some bond agents only work with specific crimes or may limit the bail amount they will cover.

The jail should have a list of local bail bond companies that you look at, or it may be better to call a friend or relative that can make the calls for you and send the agent to you. You may also have to wait until the judge sets bail at your arraignment if you are facing a felony or other serious crime.

Meeting The Bail Bond Agent

Before any bail bond agent posts your bail, they will come to the jail and meet with you. Each bond company has its own rules and stipulations that you need to agree to before they will bail you out.

The bond agent will go over the rules with you at the jail, and if you do not agree to the terms, they will not pay your bail. In most cases, the rules include things like not getting arrested again, not doing drugs, and not being in places you could get you in trouble.

The bail bond agent needs to be confident that you will keep your nose clean and appear in court for your trial. If there is any doubt about you coming to court, the bond agent may not be willing to take a chance and put up your bail.

Your Responsibilities

If a bail bond agent does bail you out, you need to follow all the guidelines or rules they gave you. It is also up to you to check in on whatever schedule you agreed to so they know you are staying out of trouble and have not left the area.

Most bond companies will want you to check in weekly, or maybe a couple of times a week. Don't miss the check-in, or they may find you and return you to jail. Getting bailed out of jail is serious and requires you to do the things you agreed to.

Most bail bond agents will work with you, but you should communicate with them about anything that comes up so they can help you stay out of trouble and out of jail.
